Waterline Break Impacting Rt. 29 N

UPDATE:

2-1-18 @ 8:15am: As of 11:30pm on 1-31-18, the waterline has been repaired and service has been fully restored. Approximately 25 feet of pipe was replaced. Both lanes of northbound Rt. 29 are currently open. RWSA will coordinate with the repaving contractor and VDOT to restore the northbound section, of Rt. 29 impacted by this work, at a later date; updates on traffic impacts will be provided at that time.

 

1-31-18 @ 1:24pm: At about 7:00 am this morning, there was a break in a 12-inch waterline located in the median of US 29 approximately 1,100 feet south of Lewis and Clark Drive. This cast iron waterline was installed in 1969.

Water service in the area will be fully restored and repairs to the northbound left lane will be completed by about 9 pm tonight. VDOT is onsite with traffic control measures. The northbound left lane will remain closed until the repair has been completed.

Charlottesville, VA— January 31, 2018

A major waterline break near Lewis and Clark Drive is impacting traffic on northbound Rt. 29, as well as water service to residents and businesses in the area. Crews are currently applying salt to the road and working to locate and repair the waterline break. Traffic lanes will be reopened and water services will be restored as soon as possible; estimated to be by 3:00 pm.
