Number of Employees
Approximately 80 full-time employees and two part-time. Full-time employees are eligible to receive all of the benefits offered below. Part-time 20-hour employees are eligible to receive half of the outlined benefits, excluding VRS Retirement and Life Insurance.

Medical, Dental and Other Health Related Benefits
Medical Insurance is available to all regular employees who work at least 20 hours per week, 36 weeks per year. The Authority offers the Southern Health and the employee may select from the following plans: Virginia Care Point of Service, Virginia Value Point of Service Plan and the Virginia Value HMO/HRA Plans. These plans offer outpatient, inpatient, major medical coverage, vision and dental as well as prescription benefits. Employee Only, Employee and 1 Minor, Employee and Spouse and employee and family coverage is also available.

Cancer/Accident/Disability Insurance is available at a monthly premium cost to all regular, 20-hour per week, employees. Coverage is offered for individual/family inpatient or outpatient cancer claims, as well as accident and disability claims. Intensive Care and Short-Term Disability coverage is also available.

Health Screening and Wellness Program topics such as Weight Loss, Managing Stress, Smoking Cessation, and Signs of a Heart Attack, help employees maintain good physical and mental health.

Life Insurance
Group Life Insurance through the Virginia Retirement System/Minnesota Life pays double the employee's annual creditable compensation for natural death; quadruple for accidental death at no cost to employee. Additional life insurance may be extended to the employee and the employee's family members at the employee's expense at a low group rate.

Retirement Benefits
Mandatory participation through the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) is required. The Authority pays both the Employer and Employee contribution for VRS Plan 1 members, a combined contribution of 12.93% of the employee's annual creditable compensation. As of July 1, 2010, VRS Plan 2 participants must defer 5% of their annual creditable compensation and the Authority contributes 7.93% to equal the combined contribution rate of 12.93% of each employee's annual creditable compensation. Flexible Benefit Plan
This program allows the Authority employees to take a voluntary salary reduction and then use those pre-tax dollars to pay for many medical and dependent care expenses that are currently being paid for with after-tax dollars.

Tax Deferred Compensation
This program allows employees to save by payroll deduction in plans that allow you to reduce your taxable salary while earning tax sheltered interest.

Employee Assistance Program
Provides 5 free consultation visits per family to assist employee and their family in dealing with personal problems, which may be too difficult to resolve alone.

Fitness Club
Fitness Club Memberships are offered at a reduced price to regular and 20-hour per week employees and their families.

Sick Leave
Accrue 8 hours per month with an option to join the Sick Leave Bank. The Sick Leave Bank is designed to help an employee through an extended illness, should the employee not have accrued leave available.
