Friday, July 15th Rivanna hosted an Odor Control Kickoff at Riverview Park for local officials, media, and neighbors.  We shared the good news that our contractors have mobilized their equipment and construction is beginning!  We also heard from City Councilor Kathy Galvin, Board of Supervisor Rick Randolph, Rivanna Solid Waste Authority Board Chair, and Woolen Mills President John Frazee. Odor Control Contract Awarded!

RWSA Board of Directors awarded the Odor Control Improvements project to MEB General Contractors, Inc. out of Chesapeake, VA and authorized the Executive Director to execute the construction contract at our April 26, 2016 meeting!  This means that construction is slated to begin by the end of June. The value-engineered rebid resulted in cost savings ranging from $700,000-$1,100,000 from the initial bid in December 2015; however ultimate project costs still necessitated around $500, 000 additional dollars from our capital budget in order to meet all the goals of the project.  The board...

RWSA Will Rebid the Odor Control Project

We were looking forward to the selection of our contractor this month for the odor control project.  Unfortunately all of the bids came in significantly over budget.  In the interest of fiscal prudence, the Rivanna engineering team decided to conduct some value engineering and then rebid this project. Value engineering is a process by which engineers look at the scope and determine the most efficient design possibly without compromising the integrity of the project.
