The Rivanna Water & Sewer Authority seeks an experienced and qualified individual to fill a Maintenance Mechanic position.

The Mechanic position performs general mechanical and electrical repairs/replacement of equipment. Seeking candidates with strong electrical, mechanical and troubleshooting skills with basic knowledge of PLC programming. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of the Manager, Mechanic or other designated person.

Typical Tasks:
Assist in all aspects of equipment repair, installation and replacement;
Performs basic pump repair;
Performs preventative maintenance on equipment as assigned;
Maintains maintenance tools, equipment, and work areas;
Performs on-call responsibilities (one week every nine weeks);
Must demonstrate proficiency in at least three of the following:

Basic welding
Basic Carpentry
Troubleshooting electrical problems
Advanced pump overhaul and repair
Basic plumbing
Blueprint reading.

A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Must possess a valid VA Driver's License. Must have or obtain Flagman Certification. Full salary range $27,390 - $55,932.

Performs technical work in support of engineering and planning projects. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school with some experience in sub-professional engineering, construction, and survey/mapping techniques. Knowledge of computer aided drafting software, GIS or GPS is preferred. Required VA Driver's License.

Typical duties:
Receives and records the calls for the "Miss Utility" service; Locates and marks the underground utilities in response to the "Miss Utility" calls; Assists in making engineering surveys for construction projects; Updates utility maps, O&M manuals, GIS data, as-built drawings and sketches; Conducts and records field inspections of Authority facilities; Assists in preparing construction cost estimates and specifications; Assists in making construction inspections and keeps daily logs on construction projects; Maintains an effective working relationship with supervisors, co-workers, contractors and the public.

Performs elementary civil engineering and/or GIS work in support of the engineering department. Assists in calculations, drafting, sketches or other duties of a limited nature, assists in performing field reconnaissance, field investigations, and construction inspection. May utilize GPS to perform mapping of water and sewer facilities; and assists in updating of the paper mapping files. Must possess a valid Virginia Driver's license. Knowledge of basic engineering and/or GIS principles, practices and terminology. Knowledge of computer software applications, with CADD or GIS desirable. No previous work experience is required. This is a temporary part-time engineering position (no benefits) with an hourly rate range $10.00-$16.50. Work schedule Monday - Friday on a part-time basis with flexibility in scheduling.
