The Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority (RWSA) is reporting that a 50 million gallon per day (mgd) wastewater bypass pumping and piping system has been completed at the Moores Creek Advanced Water Resource Recovery Facility. This bypass pumping system conveys wastewater around the damaged pump station to complete the normal treatment process. The temporary pumping and piping system will allow RWSA to manage higher wastewater flows the facility may receive during storm events. The Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority (RWSA) is reporting that a rubber bladder malfunctioned at the Sugar Hollow Reservoir at about 7:00am this morning, sending a rush of water down the Moorman’s River. The rubber bladder sits on top of the concrete dam and controls the normal water level in the reservoir. Failure of a pneumatic piping connector caused the bladder to deflate and about 5 feet of water to be released from the reservoir. RWSA and Albemarle County Fire Rescue staff responded immediately to the reservoir to investigate the problem. The failed connector was located and repaired....
