The Rivanna Water & Sewer Authority (RWSA) will be soliciting bids for several large water infrastructure projects in the coming months. RWSA is inviting firms to participate in an informational meeting as a means to introduce the projects. The meeting will be held from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM on April 11th at the Doubletree by Hilton, Charlottesville. Breakfast will be provided from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM. Project overview presentations will begin promptly at 10:00 AM.

The projects generally include construction of the following:
Central Water Line – Approx. 5 miles of 24 & 30″ ductile iron finished water piping with 2 railroad crossings.
Ragged Mountain Reservoir to Observatory Water Treatment Plant Raw Water Line and Pump Station – Approximately  4 miles of 36″ ductile iron raw water piping, including two major roadway crossings, and a raw water pump station (initially 10 MGD, expansion to 26 MGD is in South Fork Rivanna to Ragged Mountain Reservoir Project listed below).
South Fork Rivanna Reservoir to Ragged Mountain Reservoir Pipe, Intake, and Facilities – Approximately 6.5 miles of 36″ ductile iron raw water piping, including a railroad crossing, and a 30 MGD raw water intake and pump station at the South Fork Rivanna Reservoir.
South Fork Rivanna River Crossing – Approximately 2,860 LF of 24″ ductile iron finished water piping, including over 1,200 LF of HDPE piping to be installed via horizontal directional drilling (HDD) under the South Fork Rivanna River.
During the meeting, RWSA’s engineers, Michael Baker International & Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. will present an overview of each project. No drawings or contract documents will be made available at the event. Site visits will be conducted during the pre-bid meeting for each project. Each of the water line projects includes both open-cut and trenchless installation. Work common to both raw water pump station projects includes underground utilities, process, structural and architectural, electrical, controls and instrumentation, and HVAC/mechanical.
This event is an opportunity for contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and material suppliers to interact and become acquainted with the upcoming projects. Attendance at this event is not mandatory for bidding these projects. Pre-bid meetings will be scheduled for each individual project. Bidding schedules will be discussed in more detail at the event, but bidding on the initial project(s) is anticipated as early as Spring 2024.
