2020-2021 Christmas Tree Recycling Program

Albemarle County Parks and Recreation Department’s Annual “Christmas Tree Recycling Program” This County Parks program has been in operation since 1988 and has collected an average of 2300 trees annually that yield over 110 cubic yards of chips. The trees will be chipped into mulch and offered back to the public at no cost. Combining forces with the “Charlottesville Curbside Pick Up” the joint programs collected 4200 trees yielding 200 cubic yards of chips in 2020. UPDATE from 12-18-19 @ 3:50pm  –  The water line has been repaired and is back in full operation.  At approximately 8pm on Tuesday, December 17th, there was break in the raw water line that transmits water from the Beaver Creek Reservoir to the Crozet Water Treatment Plant. Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority crews, along with crews from the Albemarle County Service Authority, were dispatched to the site and have begun the process of repairing the water line. Oyster Shell Recycling at McIntire Recycling Center

Starting the week of September 23, 2019, the McIntire Recycling Center will be the new home for the collection of oyster shells in the Charlottesville/Albemarle area.  This collection point, which is open to the public as well, will collect oysters from restaurants and homes to be recycled back into oyster habitat in the Chesapeake by the Virginia Oyster Shell Recycling and Restoration Program (VOSRP).
